Spectrex SharpEye 40/40C Flame Detector – Complete Series

The Spectrex SharpEye 40/40C series includes four industrial flame detectors from the new SharpEye 40/40 generation, developed for fast and reliable fire detection in industrial applications.

The range uses four detection technologies:

  • Multi IR Quad-Sense for hydrocarbons and hydrogen;
  • IR3 Quad-Sense for hydrocarbon fires;
  • UV/IR for hydrocarbons, hydrogen, metals, and inorganic materials;
  • UV/IR optimized exclusively for hydrocarbon fires.

The 40/40C series is Spectrex’s conventional range, intended for applications and environments that are less demanding than those addressed by the premium 40/40D series. The models in the range provide a typical response time of less than 5 seconds and are available with internationally recognized certifications and approvals.

The detectors are suitable for applications such as:

  • tank farms;
  • loading and unloading facilities;
  • aircraft hangars;
  • machinery and process equipment areas;
  • waste treatment and storage facilities;
  • lithium-ion battery applications;
  • installations with a risk of hydrocarbon- or hydrogen-related fires.

Available Models in the SharpEye 40/40C Series

SharpEye 40/40C-M Multi IR Quad-Sense

The 40/40C-M model uses four independent IR sensors positioned within the invisible infrared spectrum. The technology enables simultaneous detection of hydrocarbon and hydrogen fires, without the compromises commonly associated with UV/IR detectors.

Main features:

  • detects hydrocarbon and hydrogen fires;
  • detection range of up to 65 m for gasoline and n-heptane;
  • detects a hydrogen jet flame at up to 36 m;
  • detects a single lithium-ion cell fire at up to 61 m;
  • response time of less than 5 seconds;
  • MTBF greater than 150,000 hours;
  • SIL 3 compatible;
  • internal event log;
  • FM performance tested;
  • EN 54-10 approved;
  • available with an aluminium housing only.

SharpEye 40/40C-LB UV/IR

The 40/40C-LB combines a UV sensor with an optical IR sensor. It can detect fires involving hydrocarbon fuels and gases, as well as hydrogen, metals, and inorganic materials.

It is a cost-effective solution recommended particularly for indoor applications with limited detection distances, such as machinery spaces and process equipment areas.

Main features:

  • dual-sensor UV/IR technology;
  • detects hydrocarbons, hydrogen, metals, and inorganic materials;
  • detection range of up to 15 m for gasoline and n-heptane;
  • hydrogen detection at up to 11 m;
  • detects a single lithium-ion cell fire at up to 12 m;
  • built-in self-test for the UV and IR sensors;
  • MTBF greater than 150,000 hours;
  • SIL 3 compatible;
  • internal event log;
  • FM performance tested;
  • EN 54-10 approved.

SharpEye 40/40C-L4B UV/IR

The 40/40C-L4B is a UV/IR detector designed exclusively for fires involving hydrocarbon fuels and gases.

The optical IR sensor operates in the 4.5-micron band, which is characteristic of hydrocarbon fires. This configuration provides improved false alarm immunity and longer detection distances than conventional UV/IR models.

Main features:

  • detects hydrocarbon fires only;
  • detection range of up to 28 m for gasoline and n-heptane;
  • typical response time of less than 5 seconds;
  • detects a single lithium-ion cell fire at up to 21 m;
  • built-in self-test for the UV and IR sensors;
  • MTBF greater than 150,000 hours;
  • SIL 3 compatible;
  • internal event log;
  • FM performance tested;
  • EN 54-10 approved;
  • 3-year warranty.

SharpEye 40/40C-I IR3 Quad-Sense

The 40/40C-I model uses four independent IR sensors operating in two groups of three sensors. The IR3 Quad-Sense technology is optimized for hydrocarbon fire detection and provides high immunity to false alarms.

The model is suitable for applications such as tank farms, hangars, loading and unloading areas, and waste treatment and storage facilities.

Main features:

  • detects hydrocarbon fires;
  • detection range of up to 65 m for gasoline and n-heptane;
  • typical response time of less than 5 seconds;
  • detects a single lithium-ion cell fire at up to 61 m;
  • MTBF greater than 150,000 hours;
  • SIL 3 compatible;
  • internal event log;
  • FM performance tested;
  • EN 54-10 approved;
  • 3-year warranty.
